WireGuard
SwarmGuard uses WireGuard, a cutting-edge VPN protocol known for its speed, simplicity, and strong encryption. It delivers fast and efficient device-to-device communication through a minimal, auditable codebase — ensuring both performance and security.
DRAKE
To streamline setup, SwarmGuard integrates DRAKE (Distributed Reliable Asynchronous Key Exchange) by Inalp. DRAKE allows devices to securely exchange encryption keys using QR codes, eliminating the need for pre-established trust or centralized infrastructure, and enabling a smooth, user-friendly onboarding process.
Components
1. Agent
Installed on each device, the Agent manages direct encrypted communication between nodes.
- The Agent can be deployed on routers, servers, industrial machines, computers, or IoT devices.
- Available on industry-specific app stores
- Pre-installed on devices of the SwarmGuard Business solution.
2. Controller
Used only during the initial device pairing, the Controller enables secure key exchange via QR code.
Once devices are linked the controller becomes a non-essential part only used to monitor and modify the network.
By default, the Controller is hosted by Inalp, but customers also have the option to install and operate their own on-premise Controller for full control and flexibility.
3. Gateway
Allows external devices to safely access a specific node within the network, making it ideal for remote operations or controlled maintenance.
